This is an unbelievable level of inequality. The kind that makes for really unstable societies. Thank you for educating us about the blood plasma metric. I had no idea.

I know you wrote a whole book about this. People need to read it! Because “Nearly half of the money spent in these small downtown businesses was bought with blood” is a conversation we need to be having.

I will happily have that conversation! A lot of people tend to get squeamish around the topics of blood and poverty, which I think helps keep it all hidden.

This was in the article: “Donors are compensated with pre-paid cards they can use like a normal debit or credit card.” If the businesses are, as they say, gathering to track spending and so on, it’s easy to see what spending comes from prepaid cards from the plasma company.
